सदियों से लोग ओम का उच्चारण और साधना करते रहे हैं ओंकार के बारे में पतंजलि कहते हैं कि “ ईश्वर की ध्वनि प्रणव-मन्त्र से है ” और वो प्रणव-मन्त्र है ओंकार की ध्वनि । वास्तव में यह ओम नहीं है ये अं है जब आप मन ही मन अं का उच्चारण करते हैं तो आपको ब्राह्मरन्द्र और तालू की तरफ़ ध्वनि जाती हुई सुनाई देगी और ये परमतत्व-ईश्वर, परमात्मा से जोड़ने की एक साउंड है क्योंकि परमतत्व की जो ध्वनि है वो ओंकार की ध्वनि है, जो लगातार गूंजती है । वो वायु में होती है पर आपको सुनाई नहीं देती है इसलिए पतंजलि कहते हैं कि “ आपको उसको बार बार दोहराना पड़ेगा ” , ऐसा करने से आपको ओम की ध्वनि सुनाई देनी पड़ जाएगी एवं आपके जीवन से जुड़ी नौ तरह की बाधाएं हटने लग जाएगी । ओम के प्रतीक को उत्तर-पूर्व दिशा में लगाने से आपके ईश्वर के साथ सम्बन्ध और भी मज़बूत होने लगेंगे इसके साथ यदि आपके सामाजिक सम्बन्ध ठीक नहीं हैं तो पूर्व दिशा में लगाने से भी फ़ायदा होगा । यही तस्वीर पश्चिम दिशा में लगाने से कार्यों में भी नियमितता आने लगती है ।

Patanjali says about the “Om” remedy that the sound of God comes from the Pranav Mantra and that mantra or sound is the sound of “Aunkar”. For decades, people have been practising and chanting the “Om” mantra; but as a matter of fact, this is not “Om” but “Anga”. This is the sound of “Anga” When you pronounce it, you will feel that the vibrations are going toward your head or the center of your head. This is the sound that connects you with the Divine Soul (Paramatma) the Paramtattva, or the Almighty. The vibrations of this Aunkar sound resonates throughout the Space or the Universe. That sound is resonating in Space, even now but it is not audible to us. Hence, Patanjali says in Yoga Sutras that you have to recall and keep chanting this mantra to hear this divine sound; and it is said that when you start hearing this sound, then 9 types of obstacles get resolved. These 9 different types of obstacles are: getting frightened, feeling shaky, diseases, restlessness, etc., which are the main obstacles in practicing Yoga. It is then that you start getting connected with the Solutions to the Problems of life for this you can hang the “OM” Symbol on the North-East wall of your house. This will act as a Remedy and your connectivity with the Divine Soul (God) will improve, making you more Insightful. If your Social Associations or Connectivity is not good, then you can hang it even in the East; and suppose, you have started a work but there is no regularity in it, then you can place or paste it in the West. In this way, these Symbols are very powerful in their selves.
